Running Doesn't Make You Fitter

Running doesn't make you fitter. If it did - if you actually got fitter while you ran - you would be stronger in the last mile of a marathon than the first. And we all know that's rarely the case:

This article captures a very important point - it is extremely crucial to rest, equally crucial is the need to train hard, for it provides the stimulus for growth.

This week, I have had:
Monday - HIIT in the morning. Barbell training at night.
Tuesday - 1.5km swim
Wednesday - 2km run followed by HIIT.
Thursday I rest, and I nourish - 4 small meals today, plentiful supply of protein and greens.


Tomorrow I shall gym, followed by a HIIT on Saturday, and a 2km run on Sunday.
I ache, I grow, and the last I heard said to me was, 'You're expanding.'



But my aches are nothing compared to these guys:

You think you know pain, but you have no idea. The heart thumping, chest expanding, lactic acid burn of your last workout was a walk through the meadow.

Somewhere, there’s a guy who did it in half the time it took you. He suffered. Plasma forced its way into his lungs, causing him to hack on repeat. He choked down bile halfway through, and ended on his back, pupils dilated to the size of dimes.

While you were walking around, telling your friends how hardcore your workout was, Guy Number Two was still collapsed, the prospect of driving home as daunting as climbing K2 during a snowstorm.

Oh, point taken, i guess its quite a common perception that is wrong.

So I should ask my friends and family not to jog if they wanted to lose weight.

Yup, positive.

Superman:

No, running is part and parcel of a weight loss programme. But if that's all you ever do, then its not the best way to lose weight. But surely, it beats doing nothing.

Weight loss will require some gym work, some running, and some HIIT if you can afford it.
