Today's lunch onboard was great! A fully Paleo meal - fully meat - shrimp, prawn, pork, chicken!

No dragonboating this weekend. The rainy/overcast sky also means I won't be hitting the pool.

Maybe I should sleep and eat more!

Workout Of The Day - 16th February 2010

Did something slightly different today - it was intervals at the stadium, and a first with Rings at this place.

WOD
3 rounds of
  • 100m sprints
  • 4x20m shuttle sprints
  • 10 pull ups
  • 10 ring dips

Its end of the festive season - and I have pretty well ramped up training intensity levels! Now I'm so, so tired - I will sleep really soundly tonight.

On a sidenote - I am seriously considering joining Cross Fit Singapore after I'm done with the current project! And so far already 3 colleagues have voiced interests! If it goes well, they'll be starting in a few weeks time, whereas for me, I'll be joining in late April when I'm back on Singapore soil!

Workout Of The Day - 15th February 2010

Its nice and sunny - I'll be heading to the pool later and do some swim sprints (all out effort for 1 lap, recover, repeat). It's great to indulge in anaerobic endurance training once you've got the hung of things.

And of course later I'll end the session with a fried chicken cutlet from the mall. All the ramped up training and workouts has left me feeling nothing short of great - better sleep, wholesome appetite, elevated mood levels, body raring to go!

Which on the contrary, I see those who are doing it wrong end up feeling the wrong way - shitty moods, tired & exhausted, and getting no where they aimed for. Which brings me to the next point - the Cardio Queens.

Cardio Queens have never been, and will never be the sustainable way to healthy living - but the mindset is understandably hard to change - I for one, was running too much for my own good and neglecting the other important aspects of fitness.

Updates: No swim done today as it drizzled this late morning - so it pretty much lazy until my barbells at night.

    WOD:
    2 rounds of

    • 10 shoulder presses
    • 10 barbell bent over rows
    • 10 high pulls

    Before

I remember when I got down to my goal weight of 150 lbs. On one hand I was absolutely thrilled. I couldn’t even remember the last time I weighed 150 lbs! On the other hand, I still had a lot more fat than I imagined I would at that weight. I was a little shocked. I was a runner and runners are supposed to get skinny! What happened!? So naturally I cut calories a little more, and increased my miles. At my max I was eating 1800 calories a day and running almost 50 miles a week. I knew deep down that this was not a pace I could sustain for long, and what’s worse, at 140 lbs the weight completely stopped coming off. I was so frustrated and depressed.

    And After.

    Read Cardio Queen Gone Primal

Tom's blog - is truly Primal.

At first we need to clear two things. Firstly, despite the fact that I’m not following a strictly designed workout plan, none of my workouts are random. I always try to get a well rounded workout and progress gradually. Secondly – primal training is just one of my five or four weekly workouts. Training in forest is my hobby. I really enjoy it. I don’t look at it as a workout – it’s more like a way to test my abilities, enjoy nature and relax. All the “real” work is done in other training routines. Bodyweight exercises, pilates, martial arts etc. I do the rest of my workouts because it helps me to develop a strong and functional body in a safe way. I do it because I want to live a healthy life, not because I enjoy doing pull-ups or squats. Of course I don’t hate it either. It feels good to achieve the goals I set for myself – like the one hand push-up or pistol squat.

Workout Of The Day - 14th February 2010

I'm slightly engorged and sore from yesterday's workout and good quantities of meat. Ramping up today's workout too as I have the luxury of time and rest during this festive period!

Ring dips at the Park Connector!

    WOD
    3 rounds of
    • 5 push presses
    • 10 deadlifts
    • 10 backsquats
    Followed by 6 sets of
    • 5 pull ups
    • 5 ring dips
And being the Lunar New Year - it means that I have access to emergency protein - barbecued pork jerky!

Workout Of The Day - 13th February 2010

Did a run & sprints after work today - the (extremely) hot sun left me very dehydrated!

    The 100m runway!

    WOD
    • Run 1.5km
    • 4 sets of 100m sprints
    • 2 sets of 4x20m shuttle sprints
Its so sunny & warm, it'd be nice to be at the pool, but I'm feeling too lazy for that! Hopefully I'll throw in an all-out chinup session tonight after the Reunion Dinner!

I had a very Paleo meal onboard on Friday - shrimp and mutton! The Chef is probably Danish so the meats don't really suit the local palatte.

Lifted a little on the night of CNY eve too:
    WOD
    3 sets of
    • 10 shoulder presses
    • 10 push ups
    • 10 high pulls
    • 10 push ups
    • 10 back squats
    • 10 push ups
    Followed by
    • 20 barbell bent over rows

    Is Frying Healthy?
We Primal types know better of course. Although we eschew the carb-based foods (potatoes, donuts, corn chips, battered/breaded everything) that disgrace fry pans and deep fryers everywhere, we get along fine with the fat itself.

Workout Of The Day - 12th February 2010

Getting annoyed again by how work is turning out - which reinforces one of the few important lessons my colleague reminded us of - trust no one but yourself. And all that just suddenly made me tired out, hence, the below average workout today.

    WOD

    • 30 shoulder presses
    • 30 high pulls
    • 30 push ups
At least the festivities are here soon - will pack in some intervals & the beach!

    Rest Day - 11th February 2010

Its time to take a bodily rest and so its a Rest Day for me today.

Mark Sisson's #1 Reason Why The Primal Blueprint Works For Him:

    1. I’m lazy.

Ironically, I spent 25 years of my life pursuing high level fitness and peak health through hard work, discipline, sacrifice and misery. That didn’t work out for me. I’m over it. Now I just want the best results with the least amount of pain, suffering, and sacrifice. I jokingly tell my ex-triathlete buddies, “I’d rather look fit than be fit.” Of course, the irony is that when you actually do what it takes to look fit (eat right, cut the Chronic Cardio, sprint a bit now and then and lift intensely two or three times a week ) you become VERY fit. And healthy. And happy. And more productive. The best part of Primal Blueprint living is that you can get appreciably better results with significantly less time, less effort and less sacrifice. Instead of the old 20-30 hours a week I used to put in training, I now train less than three hours total a week. I try to play the rest of the time.

Workout Of The Day - 7th February 2010

    Sunday's Links

It surely felt good to have 1 day to sleep in per week - so far I have been rising a little past 5am for Mondays to Saturdays and 730am for Sundays for Dragonboat practice. And as a result of that I have lesser time to do my intervals and weights - bad! So that's one of the reasons why I skipped Dragonboat today.

Yes, Muscles are Beautiful On Women:

"Women who claim to be afraid to train hard because they “always bulk up too much” are often already pretty bulky, or “skinny fat” (thin but weak and deconditioned) and have found another excuse to continue life sitting on their butts."

    - Mark Rippetoe

    The New Cavemen Lifestyle:

His followers believe that he too is capable of fearsome feats. When Mr. Durant told a gathering of New York cavemen that he had seen Mr. De Vany at a seminar in Las Vegas, Matthew Sanocki, 34, asked if Mr. De Vany looked as muscular in the flesh as in pictures on his blog.

“He looks great,” Mr. Durant said. “You feel like he could, at a moment’s notice, charge at you and trample you.”

Overheard somewhere (lady who skips meals to lose weight and refuses to work out instead):

"Women who go to the gym are cheap sluts who just love being surrounded by men."

And from FatHead - Why you got fat:

Workout Of The Day - 6th February 2010

Went dragonboating today with the company, followed by a great dinner at Seoul Garden but sadly I just wasn't very hungry today. Its probably due to the annoying-cough-that-won't-go-away.

Today's paddle was alot tougher but it was great - we did 4 sets of 10 minutes rowing. Very nice. And for the warm up prior to the sea training, we did a 3km run from Kallang to the Singapore Flyer and back. Nice stuff.

I'll be away from sunny Singapore for an extended period of time so I guess I won't be committing to AlumNUS this season, besides, they keep placing me in the 'noobie' boats, so its a little 'restrictive'.

I'll stick to Keppel Dragons and keep my Sundays for swimming / intervals & ring training.

Oh golly, I'm beginning to lose the mass I built up over the past few months. Time to hit the barbell harder and have more HIIT sessions!

Workout Of The Day - 3rd February 2010

Been overworked so its been zapping out my energy. I recall quite a good workout on Monday involving push presses and push ups; I skipped workout on Tuesday; and today being Wednesday, I took it easy due to the annoying dry cough.

    WOD:

    • 80 push ups
Its going to be a weekend of paddling & barbecued  meat, buffet-style, with my dearest HG, Milo and Emo-Boy haha!

Workout Of The Day - 31st January 2010

Yesterday was not as fun as it should have been Dragonboating - too many noobs in the boat makes it unfun (ha ha!)

I'll stick with rowing with my company. They provide the nice paddles & life vests, endless supply of water too!

Hit ECP for a roller blading session yesterday after the rowing session - ECP is really becoming a popular haunt, not for cycling or blading, but for the restaurants & coffee joints.

And of course my weekly indulgence in junk food - but at least I'm getting a sizeable amount of meat. Managed to find a tee I like from the Nike inside of Vivocity but they ran out of M-sizes.
